Carla D. Ufken

Carla D. Ufken, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the SSM Health Hospice Home in Monroe. She was born on September 16, 1931, in Brodhead, WI, the daughter of Granville and Ferne (Ostrander) Lewis.

Carla graduated from Monticello High School in 1949. On July 7, 1951, she was united in marriage to Alfred Ufken in Gatesville, TX, while Alfred was in the service. The couple then farmed in the Monroe and New Glarus area, and Carla had worked at Moore Business Forms and the Chalet Landhaus Inn. She was also a member of the Stuessy-Kuenzi Post 141 American Legion Auxiliary. Carla enjoyed quilting, genealogy, and, most of all, time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carla is survived by her children, Debra Ufken, David (Dorothy) Ufken, Larry Ufken, Linda (Dan) Stolts, and Wayne Ufken; grandchildren, Melanie (Jeff) Judd, Alen (Tina) Zweifel, Andrea (Sheena) Hirschfield, Tonya (Muhammed) Ufken, and A.J. Ufken; great-grandchildren, Jerrod, Ashley (fiancé Jacob Udelhoven), and Allyson Judd, Jacob and Alexander Zweifel, Ayaan, Atiya, and Ibraheem Aga, and Lelani, Beckham, and Avery Hirschfield. She is further survived by her brother, Jerry (Patti) Lewis; sister, Mary Jane (John) Pettit; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Lewis, Jackie Ellingson, and LeaAnn Pillath.

She was preceded in death by husband, Alfred; son, Dan; parents; sister, Patricia; brothers, Roger and Ted (Mayona); and brother-in-law, Ted Haugo.

Private family graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Swiss United Church of Christ Cemetery in New Glarus.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
