Karie A. Gunkel Street

Karen "Karie" Anna Gunkel Street, 58 of Belleville, WI, passed away at UW Hospital in Madison on May 22, 2021. Karie was born on May 23, 1962, in Madison, WI, to her loving parents, Linda and Theodore Gunkel.

She married the love of her life and best friend, Bob Street, on January 18, 2014. Karie graduated from Madison West High in 1980, and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors and Distinction in 1985. She coached at Badger Gymnastics before working for WPS for the last 20 years. At WPS, her dedication and work ethic took her from an hourly position to a Director of Operational Excellence in the Federal Shared Services Department. She resided in Belleville for the last 23 years, where she raised her three children, Kristy, Nick and Jack.

Karie was the foundation of her blended family and the glue that stuck them all together. Her and Bob found joy in going for rides in the classic car with the top down, antiquing for Fire King, gardening, and teaching her grandkids how to bargain shop. She was a dedicated mama, daughter, wife, grandma/Gigi and friend. She was a professional Shake N' Bake chef; she loved making Christmas cookies and hiding Easter eggs for her grandkids. She enjoyed weekends of "glamping" and adventuring with family. She was selfless, kind, loving, funny and the most courageous woman we were all blessed to know. The love she had for her friends and family was unsurpassed.
