Have you been on the school board or held any other public office before? If so please describe: I have been on the School District Of Belleville Board of Education for 2 years now and the Board President for the last 1 year.
Why are you running for school board? My next term will be focused on Student/Staff Safety for all during a pandemic, Equity, Teacher/Staff Growth, and Infrastructure. I am also focused as Board President that we are navigating through uncharted territories of this pandemic with safety first, then Education. All the while providing choices for families as no one answer fits all. Which leads me to Equity, we have to ensure that all decisions made are positive ones for all students and provides them with the tools needed to be successful. I will continue to fight for the amazing teaching and support staff to ensure that we have a solid compensation package to obtain and retain. Lastly, Ensure we continue to build and pursue a capital maintenance plan.
What issues do you find most important to the school board? How would you handle these issues? Equity - We must ensure that all decisions made are positive for all students and provide them with tools needed to have an equal opportunity to be successful. That requires districts to understand the unique challenges and barriers faced by individual students or populations of students. To achieve equity we must look at Monetary Allocating, Academic Standards, and Academic Content.
Any additional comments? My career background is business focused and creating a collaborative culture. I am of a generation that matches perfectly with the administration that is forward thinking and progressively focused on our children, our community, and our future that allows us to Challenge Barriers and build the culture for a safe and thriving learning environment.
