On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., the Monticello Village Board met in the Monticello Lions Shelter in the Village Park, for their regular meeting.
Cara Carper, from the Green County Development Corporation, updated the board on available programs to assist small businesses who are suffering adverse affects due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She outlined several programs and told board members to have business owners contact the GCDC for more details. She also discussed the need for more housing in Monticello and all over Green County and programs offered by WHEDA (Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority) and Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (SWCAP).
The Village Board approved a number of licenses for Class A Beer/Class A Liquor and Class B Beer/ Class B Liquor for Businesses in the Village. However, one business’s license will only be approved if past due Personal Property taxes are paid by June 30, 2020. The past due taxes are from 2018 and 2019.
The board approved hiring 2-4 lifeguards for 20-30 hours per week. Although the pool is closed for the summer, the discussion centered around maintenance items that need to be done. After discussing the maintenance issues, it was decided that they would get as many projects done as possible while staying within budget constraints.
Monticello Library Director Katrina Linde-Moriarty updated the board on programs at the library and said that beginning July 1st, the library will begin an Express Service. This service will allow individuals to check-out materials, talk to a librarian, and return materials from the entryway of the library.
