Belleville Village Board Candidate - Maxine L. Ward
There are three seats open for Belleville Village Trustee
March 26, 2020

Age: 71
Occupation: semi-retired, worked for 30+ years at Journey Mental Health, still teaching piano (51 years), working part-time for Taher at Belleville Public Schools.
Have you been on the village board or held any other public office before? If so please describe: I am an incumbent having served 4 years as a Belleville Village trustee. My past experience includes being President and Secretary of the Belleville Music Boosters.
Why are you running for village board? Having been a resident of Belleville for 51+ years plus the fact that I am semi-retired with an extensive background and experience I feel that I can give back to our community through participation and service.
What issues do you find most important to the village board? List your top three priorities: There are several priorities that need to be addressed. The restoration/fixing of the Dam on Lake Bellview is a most pressing issue. To help with repair costs, the Village has applied to FEMA and for a Dam Restoration Grant through the DNR. Unfortunately this process is consuming more time than we had hoped. Other items of priority include: updating the Village Comprehensive Plan for 10-20 years, reassessment of commercial and residential properties (State requirement), Lift Station in North Shore being updated and new generator being installed, upgrades to Well House 2 (pump issues) and finish Well House 3, sidewalk and street repairs, resurfacing of Remy Bridge Road (in conjunction with Montrose), leasing of the Depot, attracting new businesses to Belleville, new development growth - 9 new permits for new single family homes and duplexes so far in 2020, and the building of a new library by the Library Board and CDA.
If you could reverse one village action, what would that be? no comment.
Any additional comments? If elected, I will work to represent the citizens majority consensus on issues--not my own personal agenda. I tend to be more conservative yet I am for progress. Questions I ask--Why?, Cost?, alternative solutions?, the resulting effect on the Village and the residents financially, economically and beneficial extents to the community as a whole. For each project, I try to get the whole picture, pros and cons, regarding the end result before casting my vote.
Regardless of who you will vote for, please use your privilege and VOTE on April 7. Thank you.
