DELBERT P. OTT

Delbert Peter Ott, age 91, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the New Glarus Home. He was born on the Ott Homestead on August 12, 1928, the son of Jacob and Anna (Klassy) Ott.
Delbert was baptized and confirmed in the Swiss United Church of Christ and graduated from New Glarus High School. He helped and worked on the home farm until he was to serve his country in the U.S. Army in 1950. Delbert served nine months in Korea. Following his discharge, he returned home to work on the family farm. On May 25, 1957, he was united in marriage to Gilma Martha Severson at the York Lutheran Church. The couple resided on the Ott Homestead until moving to Monticello in 1960. After leaving the farm, Delbert was employed by Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI), then the Pauly Cheese Co. He also worked nights for The Swiss Colony. Delbert enjoyed living on the lake in Monticello. In 1966, he won the contest to give the lake its name of Lake Montesian. Delbert was an avid card player and he loved playing Euchre and Yas with his family and friends from the New Glarus Home. He loved planting and tending to his large vegetable garden.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Gilma; children, Carolyn (Jeff) Babler, Wayne (Sherrie) Ott, David Ott, and Sharon (Robert) Huettl. He is further survived by five grandchildren, Shaun Karlen, McKaylah Hilliard, Riley Hilliard, Lexie Babler, Nettie Babler; and one great-granddaughter, Keaton Karlen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Hervey, Eldon and Donald.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., at the New Glarus Home Chapel, 600 Second Avenue, New Glarus, WI (access via the Elm Dr. entrance). Funeral services followed at 11:30 a.m., at the Chapel, with Reverend Pat Pluss officiating. Burial with military honors is at the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus. Lunch will be served at the New Glarus Home following the burial service.
