Wildcats QB JJ Wenger hands the ball off to Anthony Nolden during the game against Poynette. The Wildcats won the game, 20-0.

On Friday night, the Belleville Wildcats (1-1) traveled to Poynette to take on the unbeaten (2-0) Pumas. After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats got on the board first with a 12-yard touchdown strike from JJ Wenger to Josh Grebel. With just 93 seconds left in the half, Wenger found Sean McDermott in the back corner of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown which made it 14-0 Wildcats heading into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be a defensive standoff for both teams with no scoring. About halfway into the fourth, the Wildcats pulled away when Wenger found Grebel for a 46-yard scoring pass and the Wildcats would hold on to shut out the Pumas, 20-0.

The Belleville defense was stout all night, holding a Puma rushing attack that had piled up almost 400 yards on the ground the week before to only 94 yards on 30 carries. The Pumas didn't fare much better through the air as quarterback Jackson Elsing was 9-26 for 113 yards with two interceptions.

Wenger finished 15-27 for 269 yards and three touchdowns. Grebel led the Wildcats with six catches for 125 yards and two scores and junior running back Sawyer Fahey finished with 80 yards rushing on eight carries.

The Wildcats will host Pardeeville this Friday.
