Candidate for Town of Washington Board Hilliard
March 28, 2019
Nannette Hilliard
Age: 55
Occupation: Salon Owner and Realtor
Years lived in town: Since 1984
Why are you running for town board? Some residents of Washington Township asked me to consider running for the Town Chairman. I have to admit that I was not sure at first but have been listening to the residents tell me the issues and concerns and I feel like I can give some solutions to those concerns. I have lived in the township since 1984, after marrying my husband, Tom, and feel like I have a duty to volunteer my time to the Township. In others words, we should all take a turn and donate some time and not always be the ones to sit back and watch. My children are grown and I have more time to commit to the township than what I would have had years ago. The result was, I said yes. I have owned a local business since 1990, and believe I can help run the township successfully and implement some changes and get some much needed things done in the township that has “ been put on the back burner”. I have also been a WI Licensed Real Estate Agent for 20 years and look forward in helping the township in their land development.
What issues do you find most important to the town board? 1. Listening to the residents and doing some research. Roads and maintenance of roads have been of consistent concern. In listening to the residents this is the one concern that people approach me about. I have done some research and have reached out to some other Town Chairman’s and believe we as a board can come up with a plan to improve on this. It won’t be easy as there is always a budget but I think we can make some changes and get things done.
2. I have someone who always talks about what the State can offer a township in Grants. I am very interested in seeing if there are any Grants available for our township. I have truly not done a ton of research on this but will once I get on the Board I am hoping to dig deeper and start a committee that likes to research.
3. As a Real Estate Agent and business owner in Green County, I have always been disappointed in our Washington Township Website. Which is none…I do believe that this could be like having a virtual employee and help others learn more about the township they live in. They would have an opportunity to give suggestions and concerns without attending a meeting. Another benefit would be to have the documentation one needs for Driveway permits, or the rules we follow to develop land etc. As an agent I am an avid believer in following the rules and laws that apply to a township. Sometimes I just need one questioned answered and if I had a website to answer a simple question it would save all of us time. So this will be one of my top priorities.
There are of course tons of other issues but these are the top three that without a lot of research I think we can get some changes made.
If you could reverse one town action, what would that be? I am not sure I need to reverse a town action. I do believe when the township does need something done they should follow the guidelines and statutes that are before them. I think the Board in past years has done amazing I just think it is time for a change and bring in some new ideas.
