Eggleston Receives Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association's 50 Years of Membership Award

November 15, 2018

Dr. Victor Eggleston, of New Glarus, received the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association’s (WVMA) 50 Years of Membership Award during the 2018 WVMA Annual Convention in October.

Dr. Eggleston graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1966. After graduation, he purchased a solo, mixed practice in Stockbridge, MI, where he practiced for about two years. He then sold that practice and moved to Elkhart Lake, WI, to become a partner at the St. Anna Veterinary Clinic, where his clients were primarily dairy farmers. Dr. Eggleston practiced there for 32 years until his retirement in 2000. Following retirement, he supervised a Johnes field research project for the UW Veterinary School from 2002-2009.

During his career, Dr. Eggleston was an involved WVMA member. He was part of the insurance and legislative committees, was a member of the Executive Board, and served as President in 2001. He also supervised the Birthing Barn for the WVMA at the Wisconsin State Fair for the three years that it existed.

Dr. Eggleston said there have been some notable changes in veterinary medicine over the years. “My observations in dairy practice have been to see a decrease in the number of traditional family farms, a significant increase in our knowledge of animal husbandry, particularly related to housing and nutrition, increased use of technology and a greater number of rules and regulations,” he said. “Regardless of the technological advances that have occurred in the past 50+ years that I have been in the profession, the basic need for veterinarians to effectively communicate with their clients and be concerned, interested and knowledgeable about their patient’s needs has not and will not change.”

The mission of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association is to advocate and promote veterinary medicine, while enriching animal and human health. Founded in 1915, The Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association has more than 2,300 members. For more information on the WVMA, visit http://www.wvma.org.
