Dorothy E. Vamstad

Dorothy E. Vamstad, age 89 of New Glarus, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at the New Glarus Home.  She was born on October 8, 1928, in Nashua, MT, the daughter of Andrew and Martha (Magnuson) Kolstad.

Dorothy graduated from Blanchardville High School, and on September 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Everett Vamstad at the York Memorial Lutheran Church.  Dorothy and Everett farmed in the Town of Primrose until moving to New Glarus in 1971. She was a mother, farm wife, and homemaker. Dorothy was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in New Glarus, Sons of Norway in Mount Horeb, and the Primrose and Shepherd WELCA.  Dorothy was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed speaking Norwegian to her friends and family. She also loved gardening and was well known for her baking skills.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Spengler, Elaine (Tim) Moffitt and Martha Vamstad; grandchildren, Tim (Andrea) Spengler, Leslie (Kenny) Young, Ashley (Tim) Willis and Courtney (Jim) Peart; great-grandchildren, Lillian Spengler, Cason, Addison, and Avery Young, William, Samuel, and Maxwell Peart, and Katherine and Weston Willis; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett, in 1998; and son, Dan, in 1971.  

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 Twelfth Avenue, New Glarus, WI, with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating.  Burial is in the Hauge Cemetery. Relatives and friends called from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Avenue, New Glarus, WI.

The family would like to say thank you to the wonderful care that Dorothy received in the New Glarus Home.  

Memorials are suggested to the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
