Duane Sherven

Duane C. Sherven, age 64, died peacefully on January 14, 2018, in the home where he was born with his family by his side after a courageous and hard fought six and a half year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Duane was born on April 7, 1953, at home on the family farm in New Glarus Township to Orton and Esther (Knudtson) Sherven.

He was baptized and confirmed at York Memorial Lutheran Church. Duane graduated from New Glarus High School in 1971, and from UW-Platteville in 1977 with a degree in Agriculture Education and taught high school agriculture for two years. He was married to Janet Murray on September 24, 1977, at Springdale Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb. In March of 1979, Duane and Janet returned to the family farm to start dairy and crop farming and to raise their family. Duane had a deep love for farming and was a steward of the land, which he tried to pass along to the next generation. Duane was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in New Glarus and served on various church committees. Duane was also actively involved in town and county government for nearly 30 years and enjoyed all things agriculture, music, sweet treats, cherry pie, reading, hunting, cutting hay and wood, sports, trips and family activities.
