Carol Marie (Jelle) Nyland, age 82, passed away unexpectedly with Greg and Amy by her side on Friday, October 13, 2017, at UW Hospital in Madison. Carol was born on June 9, 1935, at her family farm in Blanchardville, WI, to Clarence and Clara "Agnes" (Davidson) Jelle.
Carol married Ken Nyland on May 4, 1964, in Miami, Kansas. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Carol worked in New Glarus for most of her life, the majority of the time typing for the New Glarus Post. Family was paramount to Carol. She was active in the quilting groups at Primrose Lutheran Church and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. She loved reading and any puzzle. Carol was very modest and humble, but also a very kind and compassionate soul. She cared for Ken until his recent death in July.
Carol is survived by her son, Greg (Patricia) Wickersham; daughter, Amy (Tom) Nyland-Schmook; four granddaughters, Valerie (Dale Miller) Klitzke, Cassie (Joe Crombie) Wickersham, Tamara Schmook, and Erica Schmook; one great-grandson, Bode Miller; and her sister, Lennys Luchsinger. She is also survived by her AFS daughter, Adelle (Aren) Palik and their children. She had many nieces and nephews and good friends of many years.
A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 Twelfth Avenue, in New Glarus. A gathering with family and friends was from 9:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m., on Wednesday at the church. Coffee and dessert followed the memorial services. Memorials may be sent to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, New Glarus, where Ken and Carol were Charter Members.
