After a long and hard fought battle with illness, Elmira (Mira), age 83, passed away peacefully with her loving family near her side on April 26, 2017. Mira was born on January 27, 1934, to Sidney and Wilhelmina Knight in Bloomingdale, IL.
She graduated from Dundee High School in 1952. Mira met and married the love of her life, Robert Kammes, July 26, 1958. In 1970, they moved their family to Wisconsin where they ran a dairy farm. Mira loved working with all of the animals on the farm, but especially her Holstein cows. Mira also enjoyed working as a waitress in Belleville for many years.
Mira had a passion for sewing and was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothing for her family throughout her life. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, making sweaters, scarves, hats, etc., and made afghans for each one of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. During the retirement years, Mira and Bob traveled to Arizona each winter. Mira enjoyed friendship, playing cards, shuffleboard, and a variety of other activities while there.
She is proceeded in death by her father and mother; her sisters, Elaine Van Acker, infant sister, Geraldine; and a brother, Wayne Knight.
Mira is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Robert (Tammy) Kammes, Kathy (Shannon) Manogue, Anthony Kammes; grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Wyttenbach, Matt Wyttenbach, Brenda Wyttenbach, Tanya Kammes, Rebecca Kammes, Bridget Kammes, Keeley Manogue, Morgan Manogue, Samantha Kammes and Courtney Kammes; and step-grandsons, Jeff, Roger, Christopher, and Tim, along with their mother, Anjie Kammes; and great-grandchildren, James, Kinley, Carter, and Dominic.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 2, 2017, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Mick Moon and Rev. Kenneth Klink officiating at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 South Harrison St. Belleville, Wisconsin. Burial followed at St. Raphael's Frenchtown Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
