Anderson - Candidate for New Glarus Village Board Trustee
March 23, 2017
Name: Barbara Anderson
Age: 69
Occupation: Retired educator
Years lived in village: 59
Incumbent? Yes
Have you been on the village board or held any other public office before? If so please describe: I am completing my first two-year term as a trustee on the village board.
Why are you running for village board? I am running for a second term on the village board because I have found it to be a rewarding experience. I have learned a great deal about how our village government works in the past two years, and would be honored to serve another term.
What issues do you find most important to the village board? How would you handle these issues? Budget restraints are always an issue. Deciding what projects to fund and how they will be funded is difficult. From my perspective, projects/programs that ensure public safety need to take priority. It is also important to encourage our business community and to support new businesses looking to locate in our village. We are lucky to have a vital business community in our small town. Offering loans to new businesses and historic preservation tax credits to folks wanting to upgrade their facilities are a couple ways to provide encouragement. Finally, I believe in maintaining the facilities we have. The village hall, the parks and equipment in them, police, fire, street and utility vehicles, roads-all need routine maintenance and repair. Long range planning, to ensure that what we have is maintained and what needs replacing can be funded, is essential.
Any additional comments? I have been pleased to serve on the village board these past two years. I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve another term.
