JAMES A. GORNEY
James A. Gorney, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at home in New Glarus, WI. He was born on June 30, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to his parents, James and Rose (Howitz) Gorney.
Jim attended Lindblom Technical High School. He is a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. On September 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Emily Lucy Pucka in Chicago. Jim was a thirty-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and a lifelong Chicago resident until retiring to New Glarus in 1989. Jim loved his family and adored his wife of 53 years. He was a hardworking husband and father who worked side jobs as a butcher and a bricklayer to provide for his family. When he had free time, which wasn't often, he excelled at leather carving and leather working. Even into his advanced years Jim couldn't sit still, continuing to cook, clean, cut grass, shovel snow, and generally putter about. He enjoyed the company, friendship, and helpfulness of his good neighbors, Rudy and Rollie.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Sanford (Sandra) Gorney of Rochester Hills, MI, and Scott Gorney of Frankfort, IL; a daughter, Amy (George) Maas of Orfordville, WI; and grandson, Hank Maas.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Emily, in September 2010; parents; brothers, Charles, Leonard, Theodore, George and Raymond; and sisters, Harriet, Verna, Helene, twin Janet, and Marie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Avenue, New Glarus, WI, with the Rev. Kim Moeller officiating.
Relatives and friends called from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.
