WILMA M. POPP

 

Wilma M. Popp, age 72, a former Dayton resident, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at her home. She was born on May 26, 1943, to her parents, Benjamin and Cecilia (Reich) Schwartz at Wabasha, MN.

Wilma graduated from Alma High School. On February 18, 1961, she was united in marriage to Myron Popp at Richland Center, WI. Wilma worked at Carnes Co. in Verona for 46 years, retiring in 2009. She was a people person who liked meeting people and visiting with friends through her work as a waitress at the Dayton Hideaway and at Borland's in Belleville. Wilma was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Belleville. Wilma enjoyed ceramics, planting flowers, and decorating her home inside and out for each holiday; her home was a fixture on many holiday tours. Wilma, along with her husband, Myron, toured all fifty states on a Goldwing motorcycle, by renting one in Hawaii. Wilma loved her dogs and cats, always having one or more as part of her household. She was very proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Wilma is survived by her children, Alton (Amy) Popp and Tony Popp; grandchildren, Hannah and Benjamin; sisters, Ruth (Gary) Wick and Phyllis Bartz; sister-in-law, Jane Marie (Al) Copeland; special cousin, Barb; nieces, nephews; and her faithful dog, Shadow.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Alice Bartz; husband, Myron; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Popp.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the First United Church of Christ, 130 E. Church St., Belleville, WI, with the Rev. Heide Walker Hackman officiating. Graveside interment services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the East Dayton Cemetery.

Relatives and friends called from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the First United Church of Christ in Belleville.

The Becker-Beal Funeral Home of Belleville is assisting the family.
