Nathan M. Dittmer

Nathan M. Dittmer passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at his home, with his loving wife Sarah and beloved Shih Tzu Katie Doo by his side. He was born during a snowstorm on a farm north of Monroe on March 3, 1929, to Herman and Clara (Roth) Dittmer.

Nate started working early in life delivering the Monroe Evening Times, setting bowling pins, sorting apples, and candling eggs. He also drove a livestock truck for Trickels, hauled milk, and delivered beer for Joseph Huber, worked for John Bruni; he credited Nate Roth for teaching him carpentry, and learned auto body while working for Leon Geiger at what has become Alphorn Ford. Nate and Ralph Jegerlehner owned and operated a body shop together until he started his own business "Dittmer's Body Shop." He was a 10-year member of the Monroe Fire Department. Nate married Carol Wolfe in 1957, and they raised three children, Julie (Rudy) Gerber, children Randy (Heather Gomer) and Timothy; David (Mary Kuehl); Robert (Bonnie), children Justin Miller and Audrey (Grant) Graham. In 1983, Nate married Sarah Williams Gentz and became father to Sarah's children, Marcia (Gary) Kittleson, son Clint; Jennifer (Jim) McNeely, children Jeffrey (fiancée Nicole Stuessy), Jamison (Amanda), and Jillian (Christopher Malkow). In 1989, Nate and Sarah moved to New Glarus, his mother Clara's hometown, where Nate remembers going to the Four Corners Tavern for a pail of beer for grandpa Albert Roth. Nate loved nature, he grew his own forest for the wildlife. He always had his vehicles waxed and polished. Into God's loving arms we part with a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and stubborn Switzer.
