Sigurd F. Olson, a life-long teacher/writer/mentor, in 1946, wrote of the Quetico Superior Wilderness Area, “wilderness to the people of America is a spiritual necessity, an antidote to the high pressure of modern life, a means of regaining serenity and equilibrium.”
Andy Elkins of New Glarus has been exploring by canoe his wilderness, the Quetico Superior Wilderness/Boundary Waters Canoe Area, consisting of 1,180,000 acres of wilderness, for many years.
Elkins has lost track of the number of trips he and his family have made through the Quetico, but says he’s been there over 40 times...
