Gladyce E. Mess

 

Gladyce E. Mess, age 98 of Marshfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. She was born on May 8, 1917, in the Town of Richfield, Wood County, Wisconsin, to her parents, William III and Clara (Becker) Thiemke.

Gladyce grew up in the Auburndale area and in her early years worked at the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory. On July 2, 1938, she was united in marriage to George A. "Diddy" Mess Sr. at Winona, MN. In 1962 she went to work for J.C. Penney Company, doing alterations for the next twenty-one years along with being a homemaker and mother. Gladyce enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cottage near Phillips, WI. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren were her greatest joys. After her retirement she continued to do alterations for many area people, and was always a busy lady. Gladyce was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield, the Ladies Aid, Women's Guild, and quilter's group.

Gladyce is survived by her daughter, Gail (Bradley) Beal of New Glarus, WI; sons, Gary (Julie) Mess and Glen Mess, both of Marshfield; daughter-in-law, Jean Mess of Spencer, WI; seven grandchildren, Glenn Mess, Bonnie (Pat) Long, Randy (Rodette) Mess, Richard Mess, Cary (DeeDee) Mess, Lisa Mess and Andy (Katie) Beal. She is further survived by 16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Sr.; son, George Jr.; two sisters, Mary Darr and Violet Kramer; five brothers, William IV, Roy, John, Clare and Frank Thiemke.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 18, 2015, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 604 South Chestnut, Marshfield, WI, with the Pastor Chris Schwanz officiating with burial in the Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield. A visitation preceded the funeral service.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Atrium Post Acute Care, St. Joseph's Hospital Pallative Care, and Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care given to Gladyce.

Beal Funeral Homes and Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home of Marshfield served the family.

It's time for you to rest now Mom, no need to keep fighting your fight. Go rest with Dad and Junior and wait for us, we will all be together again. For now you will live in our hearts.
