Lillian R. Hoesly
Lillian R. Hoesly, age 87 of New Glarus, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe. She was born on March 29, 1928, at Monroe to her parents, Herman and Lily (Sonderegger) Burkhardt.
Following High School, Lillian graduated from Ripon College with a double major in Economics and Psychology. On August 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Nordean Hoesly in New Glarus. The couple met when Nordean was flying the payroll to Otto Anderegg's cheese factory in Fond du Lac, and it was Lillian's job to meet the plane. Nordean and Lillian had fond memories of the 1940 Luscombe airplane that brought them together and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. Lillian taught knitting and tailoring at MATC, and later volunteered at the New Glarus Home. She played Tell's wife for 13 years in the English version of the Wilhelm Tell play. Her hobbies included sewing, braiding rugs, caning chairs, baking, gardening and antiquing. Family was also very important to her; she adored her grandson Martin and created many memories with him.
Lillian is survived by her son, Mark (Nora Lea) Hoesly of Belleville, WI; a daughter, Nora (Tom) Bristol of Madison; grandson, Martin Hoesly of Belleville, WI; step-grandchildren, Megan (Nic) Scovill and Heath (Amy) Bristol. She is futher survived by her brother, Herman (Esther) Burkhardt of Madison, WI; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Miloe and Hulda Hoesly; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene and Richard Voegeli; and brother-in-law, Delmar Hoesly.
Private family funeral services will be held.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the home of her son Mark Hoesly, W4007 Kammes Drive, Belleville, WI 53508.
The family would like to thank the New Glarus Area EMS and Police Department, Chaplain Linda, Dr. Kate Kinney, and all of the nursing staff at the Monroe Clinic Hospital.
Memorials will be directed to the Monroe Clinic Volunteers.
