Cynthia L. Miller
Cynthia "Cindi" L. Miller, 63, of Monroe, passed away May 2, 2015. She was born March 7, 1952, to parents, Herman "Hank" and Charlene Durtschi.
Cindi attended Monticello and Albany schools, graduating from Albany High School in 1970. Cindi attended UW-LaCrosse for two years before starting work at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She worked there for 43 years until her death. Started as a CNA, went to PT Aid, then as Medical Records Clerk for over 30 years. She loved her work and knew every resident by name, and their extended families, willingly giving hugs to residents and visitors. For many years she was a Union Officer. Coworkers could rely on her for her expertise, problem solving and just a friendly ear.
Cindi started dating the love of her life, Daryl Miller, in September of 1969. They married October 7, 1972, at Zwingli UCC in Monticello. They farmed in the Juda area until moving to Monroe in 2007. They raised a daughter, Tori, and a son, Dustin. The family loved to travel together.
Cindi bowled on the city, state and national levels for over 35 years. She often served as league secretary. She participated in a softball league for many years - even on a league championship team, sponsored by Pleasant View. She played first base and was always encouraging to her teammates. First priority was to have fun, not to win. She knew how to have a good time, and was often the life of the party! Whether it was cards, board games, or water balloons, she initiated fun every chance she had. She enjoyed golfing with family and friends.
Cindi was active in 4-H for many years as General Leader of the Juda Jolly Juniors. She was also the adult advisor for the Green County Junior Leaders association. She served as the Superintendent of Photography at the Green County Fair for over 20 years. She helped 4-H kids with their sewing, home furnishings, foods, and photography projects.
Cindi was an active member at Union Presbyterian Church. Cindi and Daryl sang in the church choir their entire married lives. She also played the hand chimes (ding a lings) and directed the youth choir. She served as a deacon and on the personnel, membership and church life committees. She was involved in the Praise Group, and special music.
Cindi played clarinet in the Monroe City Band. Summer concerts at Twining Park, Cheese Days and Christmas concerts as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her in-laws, Harold H. and Vada Miller; sister's-in-law, Darlyne Seffrood and Ann Seffrood.
She is survived by her husband, Daryl, Monroe; children, Tori (Michael Stanislawski) Miller, Appleton, and Dustin (Vanessa Van Hoof) Miller, Twin Cities; siblings, Donna (Dean) Ferguson, Monticello, Thomas (Rose) Durtschi, Albany, Susan (Joe) Washington, Gulf Breeze, FL, and Carol (David Schad) Durtschi, White Bear Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Sharon (Scott) Qualley, Eagle River; brother-in-law, Donald Seffrood; nephews, Stuart (Sandy) Seffrood, Erick (Summer) Wells, Todd (Sara) Durtschi; nieces, Cassandra (Calvert) Morgan, Nikki and Shelley Ferguson, Geri Kaye (Butch) Whitney, Jen Seffrood, Melody (Bryan) Feller; grandnieces and grandnephews, Katie Holmes, Autumn and Gabe Whitney, Bryce Messerli, and Whitney Wells, Karl and Spence Seffrood, Alanna and Ty Durtschi, Olivia and Evan Feller, Evan and Adam Stanislawski.
