Richard A. Johns

Richard Allen Johns, age 68 of Baraboo and former Madison and Belleville resident, passed away unexpectedly of an apparent cardiac arrest at his home on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was born on August 11, 1948, in Chicago to his parents, Arthur and Helene (Laken) Johns.

Richard recently retired from Covance in Madison. He was always a musician at heart, playing bass guitar for several local bands. Richard was a quiet man who also loved road trips and car shows. He liked to gather with our family for get togethers and celebrations, showing up in the background with his trademark shy smile. He will be missed as a brother, Scrabble partner, and friend.

Richard is survived by his sisters, Arlene (Thomas) Wirth of Merrimac, WI, and Betty (Henry) Rutan, of Henderson, NV; brothers, Allan Johns of Mesa, AZ, Arthur Johns of Chicago, IL, Charles Johns of Lynchberg, VA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wiegert of Hawaii, and Barbara Wiegert of Brunswick, GA; special nephew, Larry Rutan; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey Wiegert, Edward Wiegert and Donald Johns.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the First United Church of Christ, 130 E. Church St., Belleville, WI, with the Rev. Heide Walker Hackman officiating. Inurnment will be in the Belleville Cemetery.
