Ellie Eichelkraut, daughter of Jeff and Jackie Eichelkraut, was recently awarded with a $1,500 scholarship from the Jeremy Bigler Scholarship Fund. Ellie is a 2022 graduate of New Glarus High School. Pictured, from left: Kimberly Bigler, Judy Arn, Ellie Eichelkraut and Bill Bigler.

After two years of COVID, an "in-person" trivia event was held again on March 5, 2023, at Puempel's Olde Tavern.

The Jeremy Bigler Scholarship Fund was created in 2017, with funding provided by team entries to the "Go Bigs or Go Home'' Trivia Contest, along with other donations. A $500 scholarship was created initially, but the fund was able to support a $1,000 scholarship given to Kylo Barker in 2021. Jeremy's family was able to present Ellie Eichelkraut, the 2022 recipient, with her check in the amount of $1,500 at the recent trivia contest. Funding from the Silent Auction allowed an increase in the scholarship for 2022.

Our Quizmaster, Brian Bubenzer, loves trivia and that is how he and Jodi Lombardo Bubenzer became friends with Jeremy, who passed away in 2016. They would stop into Puempel's and visit and also played on a trivia team together. They have volunteered their services to create all the questions and tabulate the scoring now for seven years, and we thank them so very much for the amazing job they do. We thank Kaye Gmur for providing us with a sound system, Denise Scott and Alicia Greer for the treats, Connie Langfoss and Kimberly Bigler for keeping the glasses full and for donating a portion of their tips to the scholarship, and to Chuck Bigler for the venue. Everyone admitted that being back "in-person" at Puempel's where Jeremy managed the bar and made so many memories with the team members makes for a special day with more memories. Special donations were given to the scholarship fund as well by Tom Sherven, Jane Martinson, Myken Paradis, Connie Langfoss and The Supernaturals.

This year ten teams vied for the top spot, which was again awarded to "Team Orange Whip" who were unbeatable again this year without John and Denise Wright. Team members included Mark and Suzi Janowiak, Kris Baumgartner, Loyd Smith, Kaye Gmur and Will Daehler. Team "Toff Enough" won the "BIGS" award. Thank you to all our other fantastic teams - The Overthinkers, Supernaturals, SBFF, Ninja Cats, Cheese Fibs, So You Think There's A Chance, Knights 61 and Motley Crew.

This year's Silent Auction brought in almost $4,000 alone, and half will be awarded to New Glarus Cares for the preservation of the green space at Candy Cane Hill. We had an amazing amount of items donated.
