Zwingli Ruth Circle Disbands, New Group Formed

December 22, 2022

Rev. A. R. Achtemeier and his wife, Clara, saw a need to reach out to the younger women of the church early in 1950. He personally called on each of them, and interest grew. Thus the Ruth Circle held its first meeting at the former Parish House the fall of 1950, with 40 young women present.

However, after 72 years the circle will disband due to aging and declining attendance. A final meeting and luncheon was held December 14th, at Vince’s. Charter members Ruth Marty and Dorothy Rupp Schlapbach were among those attending. Through the years, the Ruth Circle served wedding receptions, funeral lunches, supported a missionary in Honduras for a medical clinic, volunteered at New Glarus Nursing Home beauty shop and New Year’s party, Easter cupcakes for nursing homes and provided childcare for worship services among many other projects.

Members may now choose to support the newly formed Zwingli Women United.
