The annual Volksfest Celebration will be held in New Glarus this year on Sunday, August 7th. Volksfest celebrates Swiss Independence and the birth of the Swiss nation achieved in 1291. The events of that time became the Wilhelm Tell story and are the basis for our celebration. Volksfest continues to honor our community and its Swiss heritage through music, food and folklore. Volksfest is held annually at the Tell Shooting Park, located at N8745 County Road O, New Glarus. Music begins at 1:00 p.m., with the formal program starting at 1:30 p.m.

The New Glarus Fire Department's Annual Firefest will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022. This year Firefest has been reformatted to a family oriented daytime event, eliminating the late night band and beer tent. The members of the NGFD want Firefest to be a day to give back to the citizens they serve, though fun and education. The fire department is celebrating 120 years of service in 2022.

From 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., there will be fire truck rides for all ages, kids waterfights and plenty of kids activities and a petting zoo. All of these activities are free!

The concession stands are open from 11:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m. The food stand includes Hoesly's Meats brats, hot dogs and walking tacos, and the beverage stand, which is open all day long, features beverages to quench any thirst. The Green County Ag Chest Ice Cream Trailer will also be making an appearance.

There will be an automobile extrication demo at 1:30 p.m., and at 4:00 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., the adult open water fights start. Three person teams, register by 2:00 p.m. at Firefest.

From 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., the Frenchtown Family Band will be entertaining.

From 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., enjoy a steak dinner.

Masskrugstemmen is back! Individual heats will be held throughout at the day from Noon until 7:00 p.m. The finals will take place at band intermission. What's Masskrugstemmen? It's a contest of strength, where drinkers hold out a full 1-liter beer stein for as long as they can. Think you can win? Show up and try!

New Glarus Fire Department merchandise is available for purchase all day and the 50/50 half cash raffle tickets are available from NGFD members during walkthroughs, with drawings at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

All events will be held at the New Glarus Fire Station, located at 218 4th Avenue. For more information about Firefest or how you can support and help the New Glarus Fire Department, find them on Facebook or visit their website at http://www.newglarusfd.com.
