In early June, New Glarus Boy Scout Dylan Fritz completed an Eagle Scout project that honors the history of New Glarus as well as helps welcome visitors to New Glarus. Dylan, with the help of family and friends, rebuilt the signs on STH 69 and 39. Dylan, 17, will be a senior at New Glarus High School this fall. He has been a member of Boy Scout Troop 106 since middle school.

Dylan said that he estimated the project took between 350 and 400 hours to complete, with the help of his dad. To fund the project Dylan raised $4,286.82. The total cost of the materials came to $3,712.22. On July 5, he donated the remaining $529 back to the Village and requested that it be put towards new lights for the signs, a project that is estimated to cost $1,500-$2,000.

Dylan said in an email, "I am very grateful that the project is complete and that I was given this opportunity from the Village of New Glarus and the Scouts. This project couldn't have been done without the help from my father, Jason, who took on all of the woodworking for my project, who helped me in planning, painting, and with the tear down and set up. He and the rest of my family deserve a huge thank you and much appreciation from me and from the village for all their hard work in helping me through this journey.

I also want to thank the New Glarus Utilities for their help in the tear down process and setting up of the brand new signs, and also to all my donors whose help was the reason my project could have been done in the first place: New Glarus Brewery, New Glarus Chamber of Commerce, New Glarus Ace Hardware, Friends of the Chalet Of Golden Fleece, Brenda's Blumenladen, WI Vietnam Veterans Chapter 3, New Glarus Lions Club, The Copeland Family, Ruth Elmer, Laura Kettner, Dave Benish, Puempel's Tavern donation box, Amy Doefer and Andrew Schulz, The Swiss Club of Whitewater, Stephanie Rohner, and Sandy Blum."
