Lions Clubs Sponsoring Plastic Bag Recycling Program
March 24, 2022
Don't throw away your plastic bags, plastic bubble wraps, newspaper bags, plastic mailers, cereal box bags, plastic wraps for water bottles/toilet paper/paper towels, water softener bags. The New Glarus and Monticello Lions Clubs are sponsoring a community recycling program in their respective villages. In addition, the New Glarus Lions are teaming with the Middle School Student Council, which is coordinating the recycling within the New Glarus schools.
This recycling initiative supports the Lions' Environmental global cause. The clubs are working through the Trex Corporation's NexTrex program from which the plastic is converted into decking and park furniture.
Put your clean and empty plastic bags/wraps in a plastic bag (NO bottles, plastic rings around soda bottles, frozen food bags, soil/mulch bags, pet food bags). Take to one of the following locations and put in the special recycle containers during normal business hours:
Belleville: Piggly Wiggly. Monticello: Gempeler's Supermarket. New Glarus: Village Hall, Roy's Market, Cenex.
Each club's program has a goal of 500 pounds of recyclable plastic bags/wraps over the next six months. Each club that meets the goal will receive a Trex park bench to donate to their respective community.
The Lions Clubs appreciate the support of the businesses listed above, as well as Brenda's Blumenladen and Railroad St. Boutique, Ace Hardware, and Risley Pellet Solutions. Businesses can reach out to the Monticello or New Glarus Lions if they would like to support the recycling program.
Let's work together and keep plastic out of landfills!
