On October 11, 2021, Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant was honored for 20 years of service to the New Glarus community. The employees of the New Glarus Police Department put together a celebration, including a cake and refreshments. A plaque, commemorating his years at the New Glarus Police Department, was presented to him. The plaque featured the ribbons/awards he has been awarded over the years.

During his service in New Glarus, Lieutenant Sturdevant has filled a wide range of responsibilities, including Evidence Technician, Court Officer, Liaison for Human Services, New Glarus School Liaison, Fleet Manager, Field Training Officer, Festival Coordinator, Community Policing Coordinator and Supervisor. He has been a Major Crimes Supervisor/Coordinator, Member of Green County SWAT Team since 2008, and a Member of Green County Law Enforcement Administrator's Association. Lieutenant Sturdevant manages and oversees the day-to-day operations of the police department, represents the New Glarus Police Department at various meetings and committees as well as served as the acting chief several times. He has done all of these additional duties while still responding and handling calls in the Village.

Sturdevant began his career with the Village of New Glarus in August of 2001, when he was hired as a part-time officer by former Chief Steve Allbaugh and the New Glarus Village Board. He became a full-time officer on October 11, 2001. In 2004, Chief Allbaugh was deployed to Iraq with the Army Reserves, and Sturdevant was named Interim Chief. In October of 2004, he was promoted to Sergeant. Upon Allbaugh's return from Iraq, Sturdevant received the Community Service Award to show the village's appreciation for his service to the community while being acting chief. He again served as Interim Chief from July 31, 2010, when Chief Allbaugh retired until May 2011, when current Chief Burt Boldebuck started with the Village. Once again Lieutenant Sturdevant served as Interim Chief for over 70 days in 2016, when Boldebuck was gone, due to a retirement from his full-time job and state protocol.

Over the years, Lieutenant Sturdevant has received a number of Plaques and Commendations including: Two Life Saving Awards, Plaque for Interim Chief of Police; Distinguished Service Recognition plaque from the New Glarus VFW Post; Commendation Award; Three Exemplary Police Performance Awards; Medal of Merit-Outstanding Service & Performance; Green County Officer of the Year Award/Plaque; and Community Service Award.
