Autumn "Arbor Day" Celebrated in New Glarus
October 14, 2021
New Glarus celebrated its twenty-fifth annual Arbor Day tree planting on Friday, September 24. This year's tree planting was a little different than the past 24 years. Due to COVID-19, the annual spring tree planting effort was postponed until this fall. Adult volunteers and New Glarus High School students, under the direction of Hanna Kearns, joined Village Forester Paul Jennrich in planting trees throughout the village. The Village Public Works Department assisted by pre-digging planting sites and helping with the overall planting effort.
At noon the group ate a picnic lunch at Veterans Park, organized by Carolyn Jennrich, Shirley Lueschow, Carol Holmes and Carol Hassemer. Funding for the lunch was provided by donations by generous community members.
Plans are already underway to resume our traditional Arbor Day tree planting in New Glarus next spring. Anyone wishing to purchase terrace trees for next year's planting, volunteer for next year's event or provide a donation to help fund the tree planting may contact Village Forester Paul Jennrich at (608) 527-5833.
