Remembering 9/11

September 16, 2021

Inspired by the courage and sacrifice of those lost on September 11, 2001, the New Glarus Area EMS hosted a silent procession of people and vehicles representing emergency response, military and other first responders, beginning at 8:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 11, 2021. The procession included first responders from around the area. The procession began at the New Glarus High School and made its way to and around the Village Park. Before reaching the park, recognizing the support that they give to first responders, family members were invited to join in the parade, and walk around the Village Park.

At 8:46 a.m. - the time the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center - the procession stopped for a moment of silence.

At the end of the procession, a remembrance program was held in the Village Park.

Chief Mueller noted, "Bringing multiple agencies and municipalities together was a fitting way to honor those that continue to serve and those that were lost on 9/11 twenty years ago. I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended, and those that assisted in the process." She continued, "I would like to extend a special thank you to Grace Church for their assistance with the stage, set-up, and other aspects. Bekah and Annie from the New Glarus Chamber, the Green County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard, the American Legion Honor Guard, Kay and Fran Zimmerman, Rosalie Huntington, Henry Janisch and Tim Schmitt, Legion Commander."

Following the remembrance ceremony, a number of those who had taken part in the event posed for group photo.
