There will be a fourth reunion of ALL Belleville High School football alumni the evening of August 27th. This includes former players, coaches, cheerleaders, managers and fans from the 1940’s through the Class of 2021.
This event will be held in conjunction with the Belleville Wildcats vs New Glarus-Monticello football game held at the Sports Complex starting at 7:00 p.m. With a few exceptions during the Great Depression, Belleville and New Glarus-Monticello have been facing each other in high school gridiron action since 1930 and this year’s game looks to be another classic. For the first time since 1930, Belleville and New Glarus-Monticello will face each other twice in the same calendar year. In the 1930 season, they played on October 17th and November 11th, with the Glarners defeating the Purgolders of Belleville 14-0 in the first matchup and 12-7 in the second.
Earlier this year in “COVID Spring” action, Belleville defeated NGM 21-20 down in New Glarus, and the Glarner Knights are sure to be looking out for revenge.
At halftime of the varsity game, we are asking all the players, coaches, cheerleaders and managers from the 1964 through 1970 seasons to make their way to the field to be recognized and honored.
Wildcat Wall of Fame coach John Becker started his career at Belleville and these first seven years of 28 years as head coach at Belleville amassed a record of 39 wins, 14 losses and 5 ties while winning two State Line League Conference championships (1964 and 1965).
A fourth commemorative booklet published by the Belleville Area Historical Society will be made available at the game giving the highlights of Belleville Wildcats Football from the seasons of 1964 through 1970. Previous editions of the history of Belleville Wildcats Football will also be available: Volume 1: 1970-1972 Wildcats 19 Game Winning Streak (published 2017); Volume 2: 1973-1983 (published in 2018); Volume 3: 1928-1963 (published in 2019); Volume 4: 1964-1970 (published 2021).
