Green County Schuetzen held their third annual invitational Schuetzen Fest on July 31st, at the Paul and Sue Rieder farm near Attica. Nine shooters participated in this traditional shooting sport. All shooting was conducted at 50' with .22 Cal rifles.
The Schuetzen style of shooting was brought to America in the 1820's with the influx of Swiss and German settlers. The "Golden Age of Schuetzen" was from 1890 to 1915; it was often described as "German Golf". All shooting is performed offhand (standing) with no shooting jackets, slings or rests.
