News of Men In Service

December 26, 1945

Lieut. Robert Strickler arrived home after several years of service in the Pacific war theater, just in time for Christmas dinner at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Strickler.

Pvt. Bernard Staley is home after service with the Marine Corps in the Pacific area.

Corp. Harold Roth is home from European service and has been discharged.

Sgt. Ralph Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl F. Mueller, has landed on the east coast and will be at home soon.

Pfc. Eldon Hustad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hustad, is home on a 60-day furlough after being in Europe since April.

Mark S. Wild of Temple, Texas, has been promoted to Sergeant.

Corp. Wayne Showers, Camp Hood, Texas, is home for Christmas.

Sgt. Delmar Kubly is now stationed at Clarksville, Tennessee.

Clifford Klassy, Radio Operator in the Merchant Marine, who recently returned from European service, is home for Christmas.

Paul Streiff, A/S, is home for Christmas from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Robin Stuessy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Stuessy, Madison, landed on the east coast from Europe on Saturday and expected to be home soon.

First Lt. Thomas Wohlrabe returned to the U. S. on December 8th, after serving in Europe for 26 months. He was with a truck company. His wife, the former Charlene Hoesly, stayed with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoesly, during his absence. Lt. Wholrabe is now visiting at New Glarus on terminal leave.

Cadet Richard Streiff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred P. Streiff, spent Christmas here on furlough from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. He entered West Point in 1943. NOTE: Streiff served on the staff of Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon.

Pvt. Dwight Elmer, Chanute Field, Illinois, who is spending a ten-day furlough at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Elmer at Dayton, was a guest of his cousin Nathan Figi, Bugler 1/c, over Sunday.

Sgt. Charles Stocker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stocker, Beloit, formerly of New Glarus, is home after long service in the Pacific and has re-enlisted in the Army. His brother, Herbert, has been expected home from Iran.

Pvt. Melbourne H. Duerst is spending a 2-week delay en route with relatives here and at Monroe. He is being transferred from Ft. Benning , Georgia, to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.

S/SGT. Gerald Disch Ends Marine Service

S/Sgt. Gerald Disch received his discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps at San Diego, California, on December 8th, after 40 months of service. He had 74 points to his credit.

Gerald entered service in August 1942, and received training at the large Marine Corps base at San Diego, California. In March 1943, he was sent to the South Pacific area, where he was stationed at New Claedonia for 18 months, at Guadalcanal 2 months and in the Russell Islands for six months.
