Hitchhike Home

May 30, 1945

Three community veterans, patients at Shick Hospital, Clinton, Ia., Dean Gmur, Ernest Maurer, and Orrin Peterson, were home over the weekend. They came home via hitchhiking, leaving Clinton, Ia., at 10 o’clock and getting to Monroe by 1:30, a distance of 100 miles.

Pfc. John Aebly, who has been a patient at Government Hospital at Battle Creek, Michigan, has received his honorable discharge and has returned to his home. He has been in the Army since Sept. 1942, and went overseas in Oct. 1943. Pfc. Aebly was wounded in action in France last August 4th. He had...
