Podach Retires and Coworkers Celebrate Her Dedication with a Parade

Cars lined up to honor Sandy Podach, who retired from the Belleville School District after 31 years.
After working in the School District of Belleville for 31 years, Sandy Podach's last day was celebrated last Friday as coworkers drove past her home honking horns sand sending heartfelt retirement messages.
"It's been quite a run," said Sandy, who started working part-time in 1988 and then full-time in 1989.
Sandy added that High School Principal Roger Moe always said that she was a Jack of all trades.
"I did wear a lot of hats," laughed Sandy.
She worked in the high school kitchen, helped staff with printing, worked in both of the libraries, drove students to classes in other school districts, did mail and bank runs, drove students to middle school for band, playground duty, crossing guard, collected milk and meal tickets, supervised students in detention or during tests, and helped with special education students.
One of the jobs she enjoyed the most was typing the first grade newspapers.

"That was a great way to know the students and their families," said Sandy. "Some of the students who I worked with in the last few years are children of students I worked with earlier in my career. It was so fun to see them as a family."
Sandy is looking forward to spending time with their daughters, Dawn and Kelly; grandchildren, Zach, Adeline, and Zaviar; traveling with her husband, Ed, to some places in the U.S., some reading, and completing some knitting projects.
"Nothing too exotic," said Sandy. "Just spending time with one another."
And about the parade: "It made my day," said Sandy.
