Wilhelm Tell Festival, A Labor Day Weekend Tradition in New Glarus

Since 1938, the people of New Glarus have presented the Wilhelm Tell Pageant.

The pageant was the vision of Edwin Barlow, a world traveler who donated his home, Chalet of the Golden Fleece, to the Village of New Glarus.

The Wilhelm Tell play was written by Johann Christoph Friedrich Von Schiller and was completed in 1804.

For the first three years of the play's presentation in New Glarus it was performed in German only. In 1941 it was presented for the first time in English.
