Merle V. (Kubly) Willoughby, age 100, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Virginia Highlands Rehab Center.

Merle operated a beauty shop out of her home in New Glarus for many years. She also volunteered at the New Glarus Home’s beauty shop for over 20 years, as well as being the beautician for the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home.

She is survived by one son, James (Kay) Willoughby; daughter-in-law, Linda Kivi; grandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) Willoughby, Dana (Gil) Nack, Brett Willoughby, Blake Willoughby, Ashley Willoughby; and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jenna and Evan. Also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

Merle was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Robert; brother, Clifford; sisters, Bessie Kubly, Adeline Reuter and Kathryn Fritz.

Upon Merle’s request, there will be no public service. Private burial will be in the Swiss Reformed Cemetery in New Glarus. Schimdt Bartelt, Sussex, is assisting the family with preparations. Zentner-Beal is assisting with private burial.

Memorials can be sent in Merle’s name to the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, for stained glass restoration.
