GLORIA MIRIAM (ZILTNER) THOMPSON
May 31, 2018
Gloria M. Thompson, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the New Glarus Home in New Glarus, Wisconsin. The youngest of seven children, Gloria was born on February 18, 1925 in New Glarus, to Fred and Sarah (Wichser) Ziltner.
She graduated from New Glarus High School, the class of 1943. Gloria worked at Engler's General Store and at the Wilhelm Tell Festival during high school and attended Business College in Madison, Wisconsin. She married Paul L. Thompson on April 14, 1945, in Phoenix, Arizona. While Paul attended Veterinary School at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, from 1945-49, Gloria worked at the Iowa State Printing Department. After living in Freeport, Illinois, during Paul's veterinary residency, Gloria and Paul moved to Argyle in 1951 to open a large animal veterinary practice. While living in Argyle, Gloria was the Office Manager for Dr. Paul's business until he retired in 1988. She was a lifelong member of Argyle Lutheran Church and was President of the Argyle Lutheran Church Ladies Aid for several years. She was also a member of the Argyle Chamber of Commerce and the American Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary. Gloria was the first chairperson of the Girl Scout Cookie Drive in Argyle. She remembered that Girl Scout cookies were 50 cents/box at that time! Gloria and Paul moved to New Glarus in 1997...to return to Gloria's "Swiss Roots."
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sara Jo and Steve Craw of Mission Viejo, CA; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Craw of Atlanta, GA, and Jeff Craw of New York, NY; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Charles Craw; sister, Ruth Wenger; sisters-in-law, Germaine Thompson and Julie Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Werner, Royal and Emil Ziltner; and sisters, Wilma Zentner and Julie Crickenberger; her stepfather, John Stuessy; and a stepbrother, Russell Stuessy.
Gloria always enjoyed and treasured her faith, her family, her friends (so faithful with her "all occasion" greeting cards!), and her Swiss heritage. She also enjoyed Country music and Culver's Hot Fudge sundaes!
Memorials are suggested to the New Glarus Home, Monroe Clinic Hospice and the Argyle Lutheran Church.
An inurnment service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to offer a very special "Thank You" to Dr. Gedden, the staff at the New Glarus Home, the Monroe Clinic Hospice program, Pastor Dan Bohlman, and our family and friends for all the wonderful care and support given to our mother and our family over the past several years.
Our mother and grandmother had a very generous, loving and caring heart. She lives on in ours!

An online memorial with guestbook is available at http://www.bealfuneralhomes.com.
By Gloria's request: "Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can." (John Wesley)
