Did you know that New Glarus has the smallest library for its population of any community in our area? There is no room for an adult reading area, no room for private computer areas, no space for children's programming and no space for community activities. The current space is not accessible for people in wheelchairs and is even too crowded for moms to bring their tots in strollers.
As the new banner from the Capital Campaign at the entrance to the village states, "New Glarus Deserves a Better Library".
A new building would provide room for community meetings and educational programming, quiet reading areas, study spaces and a dedicated area for children. It would also have a drive-through book return, easy access, and sufficient parking.
The Village of New Glarus has pledged financial support, but a large part of the cost of the new library will have to come from donations from citizens like you. As of today, the Capital Campaign has raised over $800,000 in cash and pledges towards the $1 million milestone that must be reached by the end of 2018. Once the $1 million milestone is reached, the Village Board will release the $1 million in reserve for the new library.
If you would like to donate, go to http://www.NewGlarusPublicLibrary.org.
If you have questions or would like to get involved, contact one of the Capital Campaign Co-chairs: Howard Cosgrove at (608) 527-5268, Mary Funseth at (608) 527-2662, Mark Janowiak at (608) 558-7887, or Mark Renner at (608) 214-3273.
Or show support for the new library in your own yard by buying and displaying a lawn sign. You can sign up for a lawn sign at the New Glarus Public Library. Cost is $20 to recoup the cost.
New Glarus deserves a better library and we hope you will join in the effort to get it built.
