John J. Krieg

John J. Krieg, age 73 of Monticello, died Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. John was born on February 20, 1944, in Monroe, the son of Jacob and Crescent (Lissner) Krieg.

He graduated from Monticello High School in 1962, and earned a degree from MATC in small engine repair. John married Ardis Strebig on August 28, 1971, in Medford, WI. He was part owner and worked as a mechanic at Krieg and Zurbuchen Implement in Monticello for 19 years. He then was employed at Ruf's Farm Implement in Darlington for four years and as a shop foreman at the Green County Highway Department for 19 years until retiring in 2009. John was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in New Glarus. In his younger years John was actively involved in scouting, earning the highest rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 106 of Monticello. He was proud to have served on the Monticello Fire Department for 23 years (four years as chief). John enjoyed watching NASCAR and deer hunting with his friends in northern Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Ardis Krieg of Monticello; five children, Ann (Trevor) Peterson of Monroe, Jodi (Brian) Krieg-Shover of Monticello, Dianna Krieg (Mike Dohm) of Cambridge, WI, Jared Krieg of Madison, and Timothy (Aimee) Krieg of Monticello; four grandchildren, Bryss Shover, Jovan Shover, Alex Zoglman and Samantha Peterson; three step-grandchildren, Amber, Jade and Krystal Peterson; two sisters, Julie (Bob) Howard of Trempeleau, WI, and Merikay (Henry) Payne of Madison; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Buechel of Verona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Pat Buechel.

A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 12th Avenue, New Glarus, with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating. Inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, February 17th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
