New Glarus 4K-6th Graders Hold Read-A-Thon for Librarian's Family

You may think that students reading for their librarian isn't newsworthy, but for the first two weeks in November, New Glarus 4K-6th grade students are collectively hitting the books in a "Read-A-Thon" to raise money for school librarian Mrs. Hansen, whose husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Mrs. Hansen has been the New Glarus Elementary School librarian for five years. In addition to igniting a passion for reading in her young students, she has also been instrumental in improving the school's technology education, and building and maintaining the school's Battle of the Books competitive student teams.
Sadly, this past summer, Mrs. Hansen and her family received bad news. Hansen's husband, Matt, was diagnosed with bone cancer. He currently is in Texas receiving treatments for his illness.
When the school heard of this news, school administration, staff and students jumped in to help their librarian in a way that would make any librarian proud-through a promotion of student reading.
In an email to all New Glarus families, the school district wrote, "The staff and students at New Glarus Elementary and Middle School would like help out the Hansen family. We thought raising funds through a Read-A-Thon would help out the family financially while also supporting Mrs. Hansen's love of reading. We hope you will consider supporting the Hansen family and this worthwhile cause."
Students will have time scheduled to read at school during different times of the day and then will log their reading minutes online. Students can also read at home and log those minutes from home reading.

People can also donate directly to students with cash or check.
