Ed graduated from New Glarus High School in 1972. During his life he worked for Blanchardville Coop oil company delivering fuel oil, AgriBusiness, Federal Industries in Belleville and the Belleville School District, Inpak Services, Madison and New Glarus Motors and Puempel's Tavern in New Glarus. He was a past member of the Apparitions motorcycle club and proudly served as a former member of the New Glarus and Belleville Fire Departments.
Ed suffered a brain aneurysm in 2001, cutting his full adult life shorter than hoped. But even during those years of not being able to communicate, his hardy laugh and mischievous eye twinkle was always available when you needed it. Before Ed was no longer able, he enjoyed camping with family, hunting with his brothers and nephews, being an avid badger and packer fan, and enjoyed a friendly game of Betli.
Ed was a baptized and confirmed member of Swiss United Church of Christ. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Avenue, New Glarus, WI, with Pastor Bill Wineke officiating, burial at Swiss Church cemetery. A light lunch followed in fellowship hall at the church and a quick toast to Ed's life for family and friends followed at Puempel's Tavern.
Relatives and friends called from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, August 10, 2015, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Avenue, New Glarus, WI.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Feel free to come in your Badger red as that is what Ed joyously (and somewhat obsessively) wore every day for the past 14 years.
Thanks to Patricia Lohr, NP, for her vigilant care and the Agrace Hospice team for their eleventh hour care and emotional support. A deep-felt special thanks to the incredible and loving staff of Ingleside Nursing Home who provided Ed with genuine love, support, care and a sense of family for the past 14 years.
