Village of Belleville Working on Major Facilities Study

April Little

A sketch of what it could look like next to the train depot in Belleville. The Village is working on a major facilities study looking at where to expand or move current facilities in 20 years. The Village will be talking about the findings of the study at the next few board meetings.

The Belleville Village Board held a two-day long workshop to go over the results of a municipal facilities study draft.

This study projects 20-year service needs and will plan a course of action to see that the Village's current and any future facilities meet those needs. An American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance review is also a component of the study.

Buildings looked at include public works, police, library, and village hall.

"We looked at information on what it'd take to bring up buildings to code, and we have no specific plans for where these buildings could go," stated April Little. "We looked at the cost and cost savings if we built new buildings. Keep in mind that these plans won't be put in motion into well over 20 years from now; however, we do need to prioritize which building(s) need to be done first. To replace all of our buildings and bring them up to code right now would cost between $11-12 million, which is a substantial amount of money for a village of our size."

Sketches were done of proposed building sites with buildings on them and can be found on the village's website at http://www.bellevillewi.org. Larger displays of these sketches are up at the village hall or library.

Additionally, the public is invited to comment on alternatives and potential site locations for municipal facilities. A link is available at the village's website to look at the draft current building inventory along with a survey to help the village gauge the public's feelings towards these updates.
