Belleville PD and DNR Team Together for 'Cops n' Bobbers'

Katie Pederson

Kids of all ages and their parents enjoyed the "Cops n' Bobbers" event at Belleville Community Park on Saturday, June 13. The Belleville Police Department and the Wisconsin DNR teamed up to hold this event.

The Belleville Police Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources joined together to put on "Cops n' Bobbers" held on June 13th, with over 100 people in attendance at the Belleville Community Park.

The event was for children Pre K – 8th Grade.  The children fished with buddies while the smaller children fished from the fish pond and colored.  The children kept the wardens very busy with measuring their catches.  We had a fishing contest for the biggest and smallest fish.  The winners were Mark Sharron for a 9.5-inch Sunfish (biggest) and Isaiah Wilkinson with a 3-inch bluegill (smallest). The winners received poles and tackle boxes.

The children had a chance to see rescue boats from the DNR and Lt. Jim Reiter from McFarland Fire Department bought their fire boat down.  The children had a chance to learn about safety while fishing and boating and fish with Police Officers.  Belleville EMS was on scene to provide any medical attention.

This event was sponsored by Think It Then Ink it, JBM Patrol and Protection, UW Health Belleville, Disch Auto, Small Biz Resource, LLC, Mike O'Connor State Farm Insurance, Francois Ford, Artisan Deck and Design, Senior Citizen Program of Belleville, Montrose and Exeter, DNR, Landmark Co-op, Belleville Police Association, R & L Acres, Dick & Linda Miller and Beth Campbell and Ray Tushoski.  The UW Health Belleville Clinic made lunch for the children and the Senior Citizen Program of Belleville, Montrose and Exeter provided homemade cookies.

We would like to thank all the volunteers that made the event very successful: Debbie Bongard, Ray Lamboley, Robin Moag-May, Jannan Kosak, Terry Legler, Lois Loseneggar, Mark Jozefowicz, Officer Randy Burns, Officer Molly Hultine, Officer Vicki Beiersdorf, Tim Beiersdorf, Teresa Burchard, Bill Burchard, Lisa McCann, Dana Zimmerman, Lt.
