Wilton W. Marty

 

Wilton W. Marty, age 87 of New Glarus, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 1, 2015, at the New Glarus Home. He was born on August 26, 1927, in New Glarus, WI, to his parents, William F. and Louisa M. (Hefty) Marty.

Wilton attended the Voegeli Country School and graduated from the New Glarus High School in 1945. On December 7, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lorella Zimmerman at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. Wilton started hauling can milk and later as bulk. He then worked as a truck driver for Disch Hardware and Pet Milk in New Glarus. Wilton owned and operated Marty's Tap in New Glarus and later worked for twenty-nine years until retiring from Federal Industries in Belleville as the lead welder. Wilton also worked alongside his wife, Lorella, at the Dayton Hideaway and the New Glarus Hotel after selling the bar. He was baptized and confirmed at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus, where he was a life-long member and had served on the consistory. Wilton enjoyed dancing, playing cards, deer hunting, and at a late age took up golfing and scored a hole in one at the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club. He also loved to bake and cook, which was something he shared with all his great-grandchildren.

Wilton is survived by his son, Steven (Diane) Marty of New Glarus; daughters, Judy (Jon) Ziltner of New Glarus, and Michele (Dave Kocher) Deleeuw of Pittsburg, CA; grandchildren, Michael (Leslee) Marty of New Glarus, Melissa (Andrew) Eaton of Blanchardville, WI, Kimberly (Chuck) Burton of New Glarus, and Kristina Ziltner of New Glarus; great-grandchildren, Adam, Jill, Helen and Ruth Marty, Austin, Zackary and Sydney Eaton, Casey, Luke and Nicole Burton. He is further survived by a brother, Arthur (Patty) Marty of New Glarus; and sisters-in-law, Joyce Nipple of Brodhead, WI, and Marlene (William) Wagner of Sun City, AZ; special friend, Jackie Henneger-Schmitz of Monroe, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Lorella, in 1999.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave, New Glarus, WI, with the Rev. William Wineke officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends called from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave, New Glarus, WI, and from 12:00 noon until time of services on Friday at the Swiss United Church of Christ.
