Sarah A. Wealti
Sarah Alice Wealti, age 91 of Belleville, Wisconsin, passed away on June 4, 2015, at the New Glarus Home. She was born on August 16, 1923, in the Town of Montrose, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Annabelle Goodman.
She married Wilson Mikell in 1944, and later married Raymond Wealti in 1949. Ray and Alice farmed in Monticello, New Glarus, Brooklyn and Belleville. She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1940. She was a restaurant cook at Woodys and the Dayton Hide Away, the Waterfall Restaurant in Oregon, the Verona Truck Stop, Four Corners in New Glarus, and the New Glarus Home. She was a 4-H leader for the Story Creek Ramblers. She enjoyed listening to polka music and Danny O'Donnell's Irish music, singing, playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, gardening, picking berries, farming, painting, weaving afghans, reading and writing. She had articles published in the Belleville Senior Newsletter, Wisconsin State Journal, Reminisce, Country, and the Belleville Recorder. She was proud of her poem "Summer Storm," which was published in the Wind in the Night Sky. She read and has all of the books by her favorite authors, Zane Grey and Louis Lamour. She painted many pictures for her family and friends. She weaved more than 50 afghans, and embroidered pillowcases and tablecloths for family and friends. Every Christmas, she sang Silent Night in German, I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas, and Yingle Bells to her children. Her father influenced her interest in gardening by helping her plant, weed, and sell watermelons.
She is survived by sons, James Mikell (Sharleen), Lillington, NC, Raymond Wealti Jr., Brownsville, TN, and John Wealti, Merrillan, WI; daughters, Patricia Smith (Larry), Stoughton, WI, Roberta Baker, Jim Falls, WI, Lorene Siekert, Milwaukee, WI; and 12 grandchildren, Rhonda Schlueter, Chad Schlueter, Teresa (Kent) Fussell, Sheila Baker, Jacob Baker, Brian Baker, Jayson Wealti (Sara), Ben Wealti, Doug Wealti, Raychel Wealti, Matt Dunn and Josh Dunn; and 11 great-grandchildren, Austin, Jayden and Dawson Schlueter, Brooks, Hollace, Kai and Harper Wealti, Justin, Nicole, Alicia and Benjamin Fussell; and a great-great-grandchild, Aaron Fussell.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Dunn; and grandson, Christopher Dunn (June 5, 1989); husband, Raymond A. Wealti Sr. (January 24, 1991); daughter-in-law, Donna Wealti (May 20, 1992); and son-in-law, Garry Siekert (July 24, 2006); her brothers Samuel, Clyde, John, Ralph and Roy Goodman; and sisters, Viola Rohner, Maude Schluenberg, Esther Roberts-Matthews; her father, George Goodman; and mother, Annabelle Goodman; and her step-father, Oscar Olson; and a daughter at time of birth.
Mom was a wonderful person and a great mother. She taught her children right from wrong, honesty, provided a good work ethic, and how to enjoy the simple things in life, like picking blackberries and selling to the local restaurants. She made her children homemade Christmas gifts. She never interfered in her children's lives, and gave advice only when asked. Mom made angel food birthday cakes using Life Savers candy for candle holders. She was good at predicting the weather just by looking at the sky, and finding a four-leaf clover where no others could. She relaxed by twiddling her thumbs. We already miss you!
