New Glarus 2017 Public Safety Personnel of the Year

Steve Hodgson, Commander of the Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus American Legion Post #141, presented a New Glarus Public Safety Personnel of the Year Award to Rachel Anderson of the New Glarus Area EMS. Anderson has also been named EMT of the Year by the American Legion's Third District, as well the American Legion's Wisconsin EMT of the Year.

On Memorial Day, three local heroes were honored with certificates from Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus Post #141 naming them New Glarus Public Safety Personnel of the Year.

Staff Sergeant James D. Hataway, of the 994th Air Force Reserve Security Forces Squadron, has been named the Enlisted Reservist of the Year. Hataway is a member of the Stuessy-Kuenzi Post #141 in New Glarus and is a Combat Arms Instructor at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Hataway is in his eighth year of service and has served a deployment in the global war on terrorism at the Air Force's Logistical Base in Manas, Kyrgyzstan.

Steve Hodgson, Commander of the Stuessy-Kuenzi New Glarus American Legion Post #141, presented a New Glarus Public Safety Personnel of the Year Award to Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant of the New Glarus Police Department.

The Law Officer of the Year is Lieutenant Jeff Sturdevant of the New Glarus Police Department. Sturdevant has served the Village of New Glarus Police Department for 16 years and was promoted to Lieutenant in January of 2017. In addition to his service to New Glarus, Sturdevant is also employed part-time with the Green County Sheriff's Department, a member of the Green County Emergency Tactical Response Team and has served on several task forces involving federal, state and country drug enforcement agencies that had major enforcement actions resulting in arrests for criminal activities in Green County.

The Emergency Medical Technician of the Year is Rachel Anderson of the New Glarus Area Emergency Medical Service. Anderson has coordinated with other public safety agencies and public health entities for prepare for the ever-changing environment of public safety, particularly emergency medical services, since being appointed as the Training Officer. Anderson joined the New Glarus Area EMS in 2005, and is an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Besides the local honor, Anderson has also been selected as the EMT of the Year by Green County and the American Legion's Third District, which is the seven counties in southwest Wisconsin. She has also been recently selected of the EMT of the Year by the Wisconsin American Legion and will be honored at the Wisconsin American Legion Annual Department Convention in July in Appleton.
