Boldebuck Speaks to Church Youth Group

New Glarus Chief of Police Burt Boldebuck spoke Wednesday night, November 2nd, to over fifty of the Elevate Youth of Grace Church. The chief shared why he chose to become a police officer, as well as many interesting facets of police work. He explained some of the very difficult aspects, such as being on the scene of heartbreaking tragedies, and the challenge of making split-second decisions, which can determine life or death.

He asked, "Why do you think this is a high risk occupation?" The youth answered, "Because you don't know how people will react." With that, he asked for the help of a few youth to role-play situations that can easily escalate if directions aren't followed. At the end of his talk he removed his uniform, revealing his street clothes to emphasize the fact that he and other officers are just normal average people who look forward to going home to their families at the end of the day.

In honoring Chief Boldebuck, the Grace Church youth presented him with a beautiful engraved plaque with verses from the Bible that speaks of honoring authority. "...the authorities are the ministers of God...pay to all what is owed them...respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed." Romans 13:67 ESV.
