4-H teaches youth to give generously of their time and talents in service to their community. Washington Center 4-H have fun working in teams to make tie-blankets for the Monroe Clinic Hospice.

National 4-H week is October 2nd through 8th. What is 4-H you ask? 4-H is a global network of youth organizations whose mission is "engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development." The 4-H name represents for personal development areas of focus for the organization - Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. There are over 6.5 million members in the U.S., ranging from ages 5 to 21 in approximately 90 thousand clubs. One of those clubs is right here in Monticello - Washington Center 4-H Club.

Our club is an active group of over 50 members who explore many project areas ranging from animals such as dairy, rabbits, poultry, and pigs to arts and crafts such as work working, photography, and painting and much, much, much more.  The possibilities are endless!  A highlight for many of our members each year is exhibiting at the Green County Fair. A couple of service projects we have done in the past include making blankets for the Monroe Clinic, we have had a Roll-A-Thon for the Green County Humane Society, and last we folded washcloths for the hospital patients at Monroe Clinic.

If you would like to get involved our club, meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month in the school cafeteria at 7:00 p.m., and is open to kids grades Kindergarten through 12th Grade. If you would like more information please contact our adult co-leaders, Carolyn Schwartzlow (608) 214-3417 or Sally Roe (608) 558-9959.
