For a least a couple of years, plant enthusiast and past president of the Monticello Lions Club, Linn Lederman, has been prodding the members of the Lions Club to create a landscaped area on the south side of the Main Street bridge. His motivation was to enhance the entrance into downtown Monticello. Early this year Linn corroborated with Lions Secretary, Mike Davis, another plant enthusiast and Master Gardener to develop a plan of action.
Local landscaping firms were consulted for design ideas by the Environmental Committee for consideration to design and construct the project. The committee decided to invite representatives of the Village Trustees, the Monticello Community Club, the FFA Alumni, and the Monticello Chamber of Commerce to weigh in on the decision-making process. In early April, these folks decided to go with the KC's Landscaping design. Kasey promised to have the project completed by Homecoming weekend, which she did with flying colors. We all were delighted with the finished product.
The Lions were also thrilled with the financial support that we received from each of the entities who were involved choosing the winning design. What a great gift to the Monticello Community. MUCH thanks to everyone involved with this project.
